About This Site

Approach.Botonomy.Com is a site maintained by Botonomy LLC where we:

  1. Catalog our various and sundry opinions and recommendations related to Project Management and Software Development, and
  2. Link to external articles, news, blog posts, etc. that are relevant to our opinions and recommendations

We anticipate the site functioning as a combination of a reference work and a blog:

  • Reference: All of the postings will be categorized as one of a number of topics that we believe to be central to effective project management and software delivery.
  • Blog: We’ll have a chronological view of the articles/postings, so if you find this kind of thing interesting, you’ll be able to follow the day-to-day updates that are made to the site, in both HTML and RSS if you wish.

Put into a picture, it looks something like this:

The core value proposition for the site is our ability to provide a multi-faceted treatment of the subject areas that most impact Project Management and Software Development, and allowing the reader to slice-and-dice the content so that it can be readily assessed and/or absorbed, based upon the needs of the individual reader.

Now let’s take a look at the various ways that a reader may view and leverage the content provided on the site, using the above diagram as a foundation.  We’re still tweaking some of the UI, but the “Views” described below are currently accessible by selecting the appropriate Topic or Content Type in the right sidebar.

Topic View

Topic View allows the reader to see all of the intro materials, stories, tips, etc. related to a particular (ahem) topic.

Intro View

intro view

Introduction, or “Intro” view provides a high-level introduction to each of the concepts covered in approach.botonomy.com. This is great for someone who is new to the subject matter, and wants to get up to speed quickly. Intro view is also good if you only care about a topic at the 20,000 foot level.

Opinion View

Opinion View allows the reader to quickly understand the subjective positions held by the principals of Botonomy LLC on the various topics covered on the site. While the nature of this site all but ensures some subjectivity across the board, we’ll try to keep any controversial or purely subjective or speculative opinions relegated to this category.

Story View

story view

Story View provides a short fictional story that puts the topic in a real-life context, to illustrate the value of an approach or the dangers faced when the importance of these topics is ignored.

Think Aesop’s Fables with a pocket protector.

Advice View (Tips)

In the Advice View, we provide one-stop shopping for tips, tricks, and general counsel on the topics covered in the site.

Blog View (News)

While many of the above Views are just ways to slice-and-dice the site content from a reference perspective, Blog View allows you to treat this the site as a source of timely news, resources, and commentary.

So whenever we come across a news story that is related to one of the topics that we cover in approach.botonomy.com, we’ll do the following:

  • Post a link to it here
  • Briefly explain its relevance to the topic (if it isn’t already painfully obvious)
  • Throw in our $.02 for good measure

Our goal is threefold. First, this will provide a steady stream of new content coming into the site for our readers. Second, we will build up a number of external links over time that are relevant to the topics covered here. Lastly, we will use this as a basis for highlighting 3rd party content that validates (or challenges) our positions and opinions. This way, if we are advocating an approach that is new to a reader, they can use the linked articles to help make up their minds.

We comment, you decide.
